WHAT IS COMPULSIVE GAMBLING?
Compulsive or pathological gambling is a progressive impulse control disorder in which an individual has a psychological, uncontrollable preoccupation with an urge to gamble.
As compulsive gambling progresses, consequences are experienced in the psychological, social, vocational and family domains.
Compulsive gambling is further categorized by a chronic and progressive inability to resist the impulse to gamble.
Pathological gambling was first diagnosed and recognized by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980.
